The Sunshine Coast Health Foundation, patients and their families are celebrating the opening of the Wishlist Sky Bridge at the Nambour Hospital which connects the Reed Charity House to the hospital grounds.
A $40,000 grant from Sunshine Coast Council was one of many contributions that helped make the bridge possible, creating easier access to and from the hospital for the elderly, visitors who have a disability and families with young children.
The home is currently operated 24 hours a day by Australian Red Cross volunteers.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said she was proud that a council grant would make a positive contribution to the lives of many Reed Charity House visitors.
“So many patients and their families cannot afford to stay near their loved ones while they are undergoing treatment – the Reed Charity House offers an invaluable service with its low cost accommodation and this bridge will make life that much easier for the people who stay there,” said Cr McKay.
“Until now, they have had a steep climb to get to the hospital – this bridge eliminates that and will also provide a safe pathway into the hospital grounds at night.
“The House is another fantastic example of volunteers who contribute so much to our region.”
