Sunshine Coast locals going through tough times will continue to receive help from UnitingCare’s counselling service thanks to Queensland Government funding.
Community Services Minister Karen Struthers said $97,879 per year for three years would enable the Community and Individual Support Program Sunshine Coast, Metro North & Coast Region service to continue its vital work helping vulnerable Sunshine Coast locals.
“This service helps keep families together, and individuals to address problems in their lives thanks to advice, referrals, counselling and support programs,” Ms Struthers said.
“It is well linked within the local Sunshine Coast support agency network, and is well placed to support vulnerable clients.
“In fact, over the past 12 months, 332 clients were provided with support and information.”
UnitingCare’s service provides therapeutic counselling and educational information to Sunshine Coast locals who are experiencing diff iculties in their lives, which may include mental health issues, relationship breakdowns, domestic violence, addictions, or physical, psychological or emotional abuse.
Ms Struthers said organisations like UnitingCare are the backbone of our local communities, and they’re reaching out to people who need their help more than ever before.
“They provide much needed care for people who are in troubled times,” Ms Struthers said.
“The government truly values its community partners, who are essential to building brighter futures for Queensland’s most vulnerable people.
“Supporting safe and caring communities is a core part of the Queensland Government’s Toward Q2 Tomorrow’s Queensland initiative.”
