With film makers enjoying a revival in bringing comic book heroes to life the past couple of years, it is only natural that the art world reflects this and Gerrard King is an artist with a passion in bringing them to life through the mediums of oil and acrylic paints.
His interpretation of comic superheroes, including the original X Men and the Incredible Hulk, are in demand with adults who grew up reading about their favourite superheroes and who now appreciate them in art form while enjoying the nostalgia from their childhood years.
A Fine Art graduate from the Queensland College of Art, Gerrard King is an artist who wears many hats and his work defies categorization. From his pure pop pieces with bold colours to his paintings of skulls juxtaposed with vintage fabrics, his realist interpretations of everyday icons to his fine art Surrealism artworks, he moves between styles with ease and a uniquely identifiable style with universal ease.
Gerrard King will launch his exhibition featuring a selection of superheroes, skulls and popular culture this Saturday 8th December at the Solbar, 19 Ocean Street in Maroochydore at 2pm. Accompanied children (and children at heart!) are invited to attend.
