Jared Ashcroft from Maleny SES, is this year’s individual Winner of the 2012 NRMA Insurance Storm Hero awards for his selfless devotion to his community over the past year. The Maleny SES narrowly missed out on additionally winning the group award.
An awards ceremony was held in Maleny this morning with officials representatives in attendance from NRMA and the Queensland Department of Community Safety to officially present the award surrounded by Jared’s family and colleagues from the Maleny SES and Rural Bush Fire Brigade.
NRMA Insurance Community and Sustainability Specialist Lee McDougall said the Storm Heroes Awards, now in their for the year, celebrate hard-working SES volunteers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
“Jared was nominated by a member of the community, Lyn Frencham of Montville. This is the first time that a nomination has been received from a member of the public. Lyn literally sleeps better at night knowing he is there and looking out for the community. Jared is well known and respected throughout the town and is always ready to help, whether is be a storm, fire or road accident.
“SES Volunteers give generously of themselves, particularly when severe weather hits. Jared’s contribution to his community is significant and extraordinary, and we are proud to recognise him for his efforts,” said Ms McDougall.
