Sunshine Coast Councillor for Division 2, Tim Dwyer said the spirit of Australia Day will be celebrated on Sunday 26 January with a range of community events happening right across the region.
“Council is hosting an Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony at Kings Beach Park, Caloundra at 8am for those who would like to take a moment to express their national pride,” he said.
“Metropolitan Caloundra Surf Club will bring the Australian Flag in by surf boat and hand it over to cadets from TS Onslow (Navy) and Squadron 223 (Air Force) who will then march the flag into Lions Park for the flag raising.
“Other activities at Kings Beach Park include a meet and greet with Australia Day Ambassador Craig Lowndes OAM from 9am, a Queensland Air Museum display including the nose of a Sea Vixen and the Hot 91 Summer Caravan will be on hand providing fun games and giveaways and music until noon.

“I encourage anyone who is a fan of motor racing to take advantage of the opportunity to meet one of the nation’s most popular sporting heroes –  three-time V8 Supercar champion and five-time Bathurst 1000 winner – Craig Lowndes OAM. In 2012 Craig was honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his service to motor racing and the community, particularly his work in promoting road safety education programs.
“There is also a range of fun events for the community to get involved in, from the Coolum Beach Australia Day celebrations and street parade in the north and the Australia Day Family Fun Day at Glasshouse Mountains in the south, just to name a couple.
“As always, I encourage the community to celebrate safely and responsibly – while having a good time.”
The Australia Day celebrations are listed in council’s Sunshine Coast Festive Season Program 2013/14, making it easy for residents and visitors to plan the day’s activities.
