The spotlight is set to firmly shine on Noosa as the town welcomes over 220 international and local festival celebrity guests and up to 10,000 audience members as part of the 10 day Noosa Longweekend Festival. The festival takes place over 10 days and nights starting Friday June 15 and extending to Sunday June 24, 2012.
Singers, musicians, actors, dancers, directors, authors, chefs, journalists, facilitators and photographers and culture vultures will converge to present and enjoy the 80-plus, free and ticketed events that comprise the multi-genre arts program. From somewhat humble beginnings in 2002, the event has grown into one of the biggest and best regional festivals in the country.
Festival Director, Ian Mackellar said that the festival offered an eclectic array of events suited to all tastes and budgets.
“From Quebec’s ‘The Lost Fingers’ Gypsy Jazz trio to the R-Rated Australian play ‘Erotique;; to the New York based ‘Simply Barbra’ Streisand impersonator and a progressive duck-themed lunch; from a forum on Coal Seam Gas and everything in between, I believe that this year’s program is certainly one of our most diverse.
“Whilst some events have already sold out, there are still tickets available for a range of events.
“We look forward to welcoming our supremely talented opening night artist, Debra Byrne to the festival tomorrow evening with the Queensland premiere of her new show ‘Ripe’.
“The next 10 days and nights will be a colourful and creative cultural extravaganza for our audiences.”
