Federal Member for Fisher, Peter Slipper MP has called for a faster roll out of the NBN for the Sippy Downs area of his electorate.
“Earlier this year I approached the then Minister for Communications about the possibility of rolling out the NBN earlier than proposed for the electorate of Fisher. After many discussions with his office I was pleased to see my efforts were not in vain when the Minister announced that the NBN would be rolled out earlier in Alexandra Headland, Birtinya, Bokarina, Buddina, Currimundi, Meridan Plains, Minyama, Mooloolaba, Kawana, Parrearra, Warana and Wurtulla” said Mr Slipper.
“I am furious that NBN Co has not yet included Sippy Downs in their updated timing of the rollout, particularly as the area holds one of the key drivers of the economy of our region, the University of the Sunshine Coast, along with several government and private schools and a town centre which is the early stages of development” he added.
“This very important piece of infrastructure is critical to assist our businesses, to encourage people to invest in new forms of business here on the Coast and to provide better connectivity for our communities” Mr Slipper said.
“Given the omission of Sippy Downs from the accelerated rollout for many areas in Fisher I have written to the Chief Executive Officer and Director NBN Co urging the expedition of the NBN rollout to Sippy Downs as soon as possible” Mr Slipper said.
“I pledge to continue to fight for an early rollout of the NBN to Sippy Downs regardless of which party wins the election” he said.
