Major infrastructure for the Maleny Community Precinct of $500,000 is just one of the items delivered out of Sunshine Coast Council’s $538 million budget for Division 5.
Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said delivering a sustainable council means making tough decisions and this budget is about balancing the books.
“We are getting the fundamentals right by reducing debt and increasing cash to repay our loans and investing in infrastructure for growth.
The budget for the future will also deliver:
Russell Family Park, implementation of concept plan $350,000
Obi Obi Creek in Maleny, boardwalk construction $235,000
Mary Cairncross Park, design and upgrade of interpretive centre $350,000
Mary Cairncross Scenic reserve, replace playground equipment $120,000
Wilson Rd in Ilkley, sealing of gravel road $840,000
Beausangs Lane in Conondale, seal gravel roadway $240,000
Division 6
Seven hundred thousand dollars for the continued construction works at Sippy Downs Drive and $290,000 for works on the Buderim Village Park master plan are just two of the local items delivered out of Sunshine Coast Council’s $538 million budget for Division 6.
Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said council will continue its focus on delivering for local communities despite tighter financial circumstances during the 13/14 budget year.
“This budget will continue to support many grass-root projects through the endorsed $109 million capital works program,” Cr Dickson said.
A selection of these projects includes:
“Council has made, and will continue to make, the appropriate budgetary adjustments with the community’s best interests at the forefront of all decision making processes,” Cr Dickson said.
“We are getting the fundamental right; reducing debt and increasing cash. Balancing the books allows us to repay our loans and invest in infrastructure for growth.”

Division 10
Design and implementation of the Nambour Skate Park $183,000 and road and transport infrastructure of $995,000 are just two of the items delivered out of Sunshine Coast Council’s $538 million budget for Division 10.
Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson said this budget is about balancing the books and the result is a careful and considered budget for the region.
“Council is investing in infrastructure for growth while reducing the debt and repaying loans,” Cr Rogerson said.
“I’m really pleased that a number of projects that I’ve been working hard to see implemented have been included in this budget and will be going ahead in the 2013/14 financial year.”

Emergency filtration work at the Nambour Aquatic Centre $400,000
Design and implementation at Nambour Showgrounds $200,000
Car park work at the Yandina Sports Complex $370,000
Streetscaping in Yandina $200,000
Community engagement and concept design for Dick Caplick Park at Eumundi $115,000
Renewal of pathways at Petrie Park in Nambour $65,000
Quota Park in Nambour, staged implementation of draft Masterplan $240,000
