Heavy rain and some severe weather on the Sunshine Coast is predicted to hit the region over the next 24 to 48 hour. With it comes the reminders to not only be prepared for flash flooding in low lying areas but to avoid unnecessary travel and remember – if it’s flooded it, forget it.
Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management group Co-Ordinator, Alan Rogers said the current Queensland Bureau of Meteorology severe weather warnings has put the disaster management team on alert.
“The heavy rain during the next couple of days could bring with it flash flooding and slips in some areas due to the already saturated ground from recent heavy rain events,” Mr Roger said,
“This may have significant impacts around the region including road closures and localised flooding particularly this evening and then tomorrow morning with the high tide at around 8.00 a.m.
“So I am reminding residents and visitors to be aware, heed warnings and be careful and prepared, whether it is at home, on the road or at the beach.
“A number of beaches are closed so please observe the signs at the beach and check with the lifeguard on duty before entering the water.
“For the latest information on road closures across the Region, check council’s website www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au or Main Roads website www.131940.qld.gov.au for affected roads.
“Importantly, remember– whether driving or being tempted to enter a river or creek – if it’s flooded – forget it”.
If you are planning to travel by air today from the Sunshine Coast Airport., or pick up guests, don’t forget to check with your airline for the latest information on any delays or cancellations.
