[Video]Children are encouraged to register before Sunday, May 11 to be part of the biggest kid’s triathlon series in the world, Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon.
Sunshine Coast Council’s Stockland Park will host the Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon on Sunday, May 18 which is designed for children aged seven to 15 years of age, no matter their abilities or experience. The event allows children the chance to swim in an Olympic-sized pool, complete a cycle leg and finish with a run into the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon Village and receive a champion’s medal.
Division 3 Councillor Peter Cox said it is fantastic news that the inaugural Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon will be launched on the Sunshine Coast at Stockland Park.
“The Sunshine Coast is fast becoming a preferred destination for sporting events,” Cr Cox said.
“Having children of my own, I am fully aware of the importance of keeping children active and healthy and this event is a fine example of encouraging children of all abilities.
“The fact that each child receives a certificate and medal when they complete the TRYathlon is extremely rewarding for their self-esteem.
“So come on Sunshine Coast parents – register your children today to be part of the biggest kid’s triathlon series in the world.”
Australian Diamonds and Firebirds Captain and Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon Ambassador Laura Geitz said the Sunshine Coast event is anticipated to be a sell-out with close to 800 local kids expected to participate.
“It is important for parents to register their child early to avoid disappointment,” said Geitz.
“Parents are concerned with the lack of time that their kids spend being active. The Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is a perfect opportunity for kids to have fun with their mates while TRYing three different sporting activities – swimming, cycling and running.”
Sanitarium General Manager of Marketing Daniel Derrick said he was delighted that nine out of 10 parents surveyed believe the program boosted their child’s self-esteem.
“It is great to see the kids bursting with confidence as they cross the finish line, and all are rewarded with a gold medal and certificate from some of our great sporting hero ambassadors,” he said.
The Sunshine Coast Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is proudly supported by SeaFM and Sunshine Coast Council. For more information visit www.stocklandpark.com.au.
