Cancer Council Relay for Life
I don’t know about you but I’m gearing up to participate in this year’s Cancer Council Relay for Life in Maleny. I’m on the hunt for some keen community members to join my team. Cr Jenny McKay has already signed up so if you’re looking for an inspiring and meaningful activity on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October please get in contact with my office on 5435 2013 or via Glass.House@parliament.qld.gov.au I hope our team will certainly be a force to be reckoned with.
Out and About
It appears I must have said last year I would participate in the pool dunking competition at this year’s Maleny State School fair. Silly, silly me! Anyone who gets a chance at dunking their State MP into a pool of “chilly” water would never turn it down! Thanks to the School for organising such a great fair. Well done also to Julie Shelton and her team on such an amazing job with organising the inaugural Real Food Festival. The turn out was great and it has definitely put the Hinterland on the ‘foodie map’.
Queensland Off-road Motorcycling Management Strategy
From time to time I receive feedback from people who are frustrated about trail bikes in their area and I am pleased to see this strategy reflects a collaborative approach by the state and local governments to better manage off-road motorcycling in Queensland. I personally would like to see a situation where the general public and trail bike riders could happily co-exist and this strategy may be the first step to ensuring this in the future. An executive taskforce has recently been appointed to oversee the strategy’s implementation until a full report is handed down later this year. If you check out website www.sportrec.qld.gov.au you can see the list of actions that will be taken as part of the strategy and request to have an information brochure sent to you.
