Peter Browning, a senior consultant with StudioTHI (formerly The Hornery Institute) will facilitate an interactive discussion on Urban and Cultural Change at The MET within the new Maroochydore City Centre from 5.30pm on Thursday 11 November.

SunCentral Project Manager City Activation Bronwyn Adams said the Design Series has been created to deliver thought provoking content while facilitating connections across key industry groups from the Arts, Architecture, Digital, Engineering, Environment, Landscape and Planning Sectors.

“Our next event will take a cross disciplinary focus and explore how we can be more competent at leading urban transition, including building the urban literacy of the community and developing the skills of the sector to form change strategies.

“We are delighted to be partnering with not-for-profit organization Studio THI (formerly The Hornery Institute) for this event as their current work is particularly relevant to this space as it examines how the community can increase their capacity to lead major urban transitions.” Bronwyn said.

Peter Browning said he was looking forward to facilitating the event which will include conversations around creating a model for assessing a community’s capacity for urban change and increasing urban literacy and citizenship.

“We have some excellent outcomes from research and education with 360 people living in high growth, high change communities across Australia and I am keen to share this with our guests where we can explore a framework to plan cultural change strategies.

“The evening will conclude with a multi-disciplinary activity to provide guests with an opportunity to use the framework and identify the potential ingredients of a cultural urban change strategy for the Sunshine Coast.

“Regardless of ones views about population growth and change in South East Queensland, it can be said with a fair degree of confidence that the next 25 years are likely to result in more urban change than the region has experienced in the last 25 years.

“As a community we need to address the cultural and systemic change that supports the transition and it’s clear enacting change can cause real pain for communities and elected officials. This translates to a market risk for industry, especially market followers rather than shapers and governments wanting assurance that outcomes will be successful and supported by the community,” Mr Browning said.

The Design Series is developed by SunCentral Maroochydore in partnership with key industry groups including the Australian Institute of Architects, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, Engineers Australia, Planning Institute of Australia, Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance and PLA.

Tickets are available at $25 and include food and music, and a bar will be open and operated by the Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance with all profits directed to local art projects. Tickets can be purchased from http://mccmetropolitan.com.au/the-design-series
