Unitywater is excited to announce the original artwork will return to the Point Cartwright water reservoir after the community had their say.

Unitywater Acting Executive Manager for Customer and Community Pauline Thomson thanked the community for voting on the renewal project.

The beloved local marine life, including whales and turtles, and the native Richmond Birdwing Butterfly will be back.

“It’s important to Unitywater to understand what the community would like to see on this iconic landmark and for the design to reflect the local identity and community values,” Ms Thomson said.

“With nearly two-thirds in favour of the original artwork, we’re pleased to announce that the beloved local marine life, including whales and turtles, and the native Richmond Birdwing Butterfly will be back after a much-needed repaint.”

The artwork on the 17-metre-high landmark, which can be seen from land, sea and air, needed a refresh after five years of weathering the conditions of salt spray, sun exposure and high winds.

“It’s an iconic and timeless design that the community wants to see back where it belongs,” Ms Thomson said.

“We can’t wait to see this piece come to life for a second time when our artists begin painting early next year.”

Unitywater’s community artwork program transforms reservoirs, water towers and pump stations across Moreton Bay, the Sunshine Coast and Noosa with beautiful designs that reflect and enhance the local environment.

The program is designed to prevent graffiti and enhance the appearance of Unitywater assets.
