The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) in conjunction with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will continue to conduct major backburning operations in the Beach Road and Teewah airstrip area, between Noosa North Shore and Teewah in response to a large vegetation fire burning in the Cooloola Recreation Area of the Great Sandy National Park.
These operations will continue this afternoon, into the evening, and tomorrow. Residents have been notified of firefighting operations happening in their area. There is no threat to properties but a smoke hazard will continue to impact the surrounding area. Smoke is expected to linger in the area until Friday.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and drive to conditions as visibility is low in some areas. Traffic conditions have changed and traffic is being re-directed. Please obey the instructions of emergency crews.
Residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed and, if they suffer from respiratory illnesses, keep medication close by.
If residents believe their home is under threat, they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
