Tourism Noosa today launched the Noosa Sustainable Destination Action Plan 2013-2016 as part of setting the new strategic vision for the future.
Tourism Noosa General Manager, Damien Massingham said that the Tourism Noosa Sustainable Destination Action Plan 2013-16 sets a new strategic vision for the leadership and management of the industry in our community.
“This vision outlines priorities, actions and measures to take the industry forward over the next three to five years with the aim of increasing the annual value of tourism to $1 billion by 2016. This means that by then $1 billion will be injected into the local Noosa economy each year from visiting tourists.” Mr Massingham said.
The key measures of success have been identified as:
· Increase total annual visitor spend in the region from the current $867 million to $1b by 2016
· Increase preference in our target markets by 3% pa to 2016
· Increase industry participation in product development by 15%
“These key measures will be achieved through an integrated strategy, bringing together priorities for action in the areas of Marketing & Events, Industry & Product Development and Sustainability” Mr Massingham said.
Chairman of Tourism Noosa Steve McPharlin said the plan was developed through a comprehensive planning process that included a Tourism Noosa members planning workshop, stakeholder meetings around the region with industry and trader groups, the Tourism Noosa’s Board of Directors strategy planning meeting and Tourism Noosa management planning meeting in conjunction with qualitative and quantitative research.
“Tourism is the single biggest contributor to the economy in the Noosa region attracting over 1.8 million visitors annually and generating an estimated 8000 full-time equivalent jobs, equating to at least 14,000 people employed in the industry. The successful implementation of this Sustainable Destination Action Plan will see up to 1500 jobs created locally” Mr McPharlin said.
“We are committed to the Queensland Government’s DestinationQ 12-month key action plan, and support their aim of doubling total visitor expenditure in the State to $30 billion by 2020. Tourism Noosa will be assisting the Government to meet this target by working with Sunshine Coast Destination Limited to increase visitor spend in the Noosa region to $1 billion by 2016”Mr McPharlin added.
