Nominations are now invited for the 13th annual Fisher Community Australia Day Awards.
Member for Fisher Peter Slipper said the awards provide an opportunity for recognition to be given for those volunteers who work hard to make their community a better place to live.
“Our dedicated and hard-working residents don’t seek accolades for what they do – they do it for the love of their community – but Australia Day gives us an opportunity to say thanks publicly and to let them know that we do recognise their contributions, which are very much appreciated,” Mr Slipper said.
Recipients are recognised for their contributions in the areas of community service, industry and commerce, the arts, sport and recreation, and for their work with seniors’ groups, sporting clubs, youth organisations and the like.
“Each year, the Fisher Community Australia Day Awards provide a great opportunity to give public recognition to these individuals and organisations that dedicate themselves to the community,” Mr Slipper said.
The annual awards were established by Mr Slipper in 2000, to recognise those in the Electorate of Fisher who give considerable amounts of their own time to make their community a better place to live.
The presentations are made at a special ceremony at Lake Kawana Community Centre on Australia Day, January 26.
“It’s always an enjoyable event; people are there to show their respect and appreciation for our community workers while also commemorating Australia Day.”
Nomination forms for 2012 are available from Mr Slipper’s office, or by phoning 07-5444 4888 or by email at peter.slipper.mp@aph.gov.au.
