Finding a car park on Nelson Street, Golden Beach will soon be lot easier.
Sunshine Coast Council is set to commence construction of a new public carpark on Nelson Street between the Esplanade and Landsborough Parade.
Division 2 Councillor Tim Dywer said the new carpark would provide a long term improvement for car parking in the Golden Beach business district.
“This is a project that has strong support from the local community after council conducted comprehensive public consultation earlier this year and received a majority of responses favouring a carpark in this location,” he said.
“The soon to be constructed carpark will have landscaping to provide shade as well as lighting and it will provide 31 formal carparks and two disabled carparks.
“It will also include a pedestrian connection through the park on Landsborough Parade through to the local shopping hub.”
Work on the $280,000 project will commence on 1 June and completion is expected within six weeks – weather permitting. During construction, property access may be affected for short durations. Council will contact residents, where relevant to discuss timing for access or parking if work is likely to block entrances.
Traffic management measures will also be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists while work is in progress.
