A record five National Tree Day sites are registered on the Sunshine Coast this year. Together, with help from the community these National Tree Day events will see 4000 more trees planted across the Sunshine Coast.
The plantings will contribute to habitat creation, stream bank stabilisation and carbon sequestration, all in the name of conservation. The 2011 National Tree Day at Marcus beach attracted 100 volunteers who planted 1000 native coastal plants.
“If you look a little closer at beach entry 45 David Low Way, you will now see a thriving young plant community in an area that had previously struggled with weeds” said Judy Tulloch of Marcus Beach bushcare group.
On Sunday July 29, Sunshine Coast Council and Noosa & District Landcare staff from the Community Nature Conservation Program will be assisting bushcare groups to host events at Cranks Creek at Tewantin, A W Dan Park at Noosa Heads, Marcoola and Meridan Plains.
A rewarding BBQ and information about local plants and animals to the area offer a great opportunity to learn about the significance of the biodiverse ecosystem.
