List No 2 for the 2013 Caloundra Music Festival is ready to roll – and confirms CMF as a true family event for a wide range of ages and musical tastes.
Alternative rock styles have a huge following – and Western Australia clearly knows what they’re all about – because two of the genre’s best bands,Eskimo Joe and Jebediah, hail from Fremantle in that big, wide state – and are headed for Caloundra for the October 4-7 event.
German rockabilly sensations The Baseballs will give two exclusive Australian performances at CMF. They have become European superstars doing their 50s and 60s-style rock cover versions of modern hits such as Umbrella by Rihanna, Crazy in Love by Beyonce Knowles, Hot n Cold by Katy Perry and Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen.
California’s 80s/90s superstar Toni Childs will also be appearing in this year’s line-up – as will Sydney singer-songwriter Alex Lloyd.
Some acts are just so well-received that you have to ask them back – so Mama Kin will be encoring her 2012 appearance in 2013.
And short of absolute madness, there’s only one Aussie band which can express the sound of ska in its true exuberance and perfection – yep, Nicky Bomba’s incredibly popular Melbourne Ska Orchestra will turbocharge CMF audiences all over again. Nicky will also bring his Bustamento act back to CMF by popular acclaim.
Going overseas again – and going for reggae – Enrique ‘Quique’ Neira Leiva is a Chilean reggae composer and singer. Check out “Pensando En Ti Letra” on u-tube – then buy the ticket.
Rocky rock duo Busby Marou is heading into town for CMF, while yet another WA visitor, blues/roots band Blue Shaddy will feature.
Who loves Aretha? We do! And what’s the next best thing? New York soul sensation Lisa Hunt, a CMF favourite.
Nine-piece Melbourne soul band Saskwatch is also creating a frenzy across the nation, headed up by the incomparable singer Nkechi Anele – don’t miss!
Closer to home, Brisbane indie band **Sheppard **will perform its unique sound, while Sydney-based soul/funk/reggae band the Leisure Banditscompletes this round of performer announcements.
“We think we have a really well rounded and interesting line-up,” festival director Richie Eyles said.
“Some big name Aussie acts, along with some quality internationals offering plenty of diversity and good times for all.”
Caloundra Music Festival is being held from Friday October 4 to Monday October 7, over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
