Sunshine Coast Council confirmed today that a proposed Energex substation development application in Montville has been withdrawn.
Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay was joined by community representatives from Montville Village Association to make the announcement today in Montville.
Councillor McKay said the application had raised significant long term safety concerns for local residents.
“This is a great result for the people of Montville and surrounding areas, I’m absolutely delighted,” Cr McKay said.
“It goes to show that a united community voice can make a difference – and that we elected members are listening to what people have to say.
“I’ve worked closely with State Government MP Andrew Powell on this issue and we have both supported residents calls to halt the Energex development application,” Councillor McKay said.
“Energex has worked extremely well with the community and listened carefully to what we have been telling them.”
Member for Glass House Andrew Powell welcomed the announcement and said he was pleased with the outcome.
“Members of the community first raised concerns about this project with me late last year and I have been working with the Sunshine Coast Council and Energex to address those issues,” Mr Powell said.
“I am pleased Energex has been responsive to our concerns and commend them on this decision.”
