Maleny’s Men’s Pennant Team defeated Pelican Waters last Saturday by 14 shots and so finish third in their Division and gain a spot in the Finals. Two of the three teams won with margins of 16 and seven to more than compensate for the third team’s nine shot loss. Mooloolaba defeated Tewntin-Noosa which means that Maleny and Tewantin-Noosa will play off next Saturday morning with the winner to play Mooloolaba in the Final. This will be played at Maroochydore Swan at 9.00a.m. All the very best to all our players.
Tuesday’s winners with two wins and the massive margin of plus 48 were, dare I say it , that woman of the moment, Helen Caulley and partner, Les Bennett. The Touchers went to Doug Frawley, Ian hansen and Lew Cox. The Jackpot wasn’t won and Curley Petersen was the lucky Moneyboard winner. The raffle, for vegetables donated from Roy Gesch’s garden was won by visitor Dennis Burchill. Friday’s winners with a score of plus five were Bob Wilson and Richard Groves. Not a solitary Sponsors’ Prize winner was present to claim their prize. those to miss out were:- Cliff Deans for Supa IGA, John Kapetanic for Live Life Villages, Alan Birkett for Top of the Range Meats and Peg Ruddle for Maung Thai Restaurant. Reg Darwell won the Moneyboard.
This week will be a very busy one kicking off with the Men’s Jackpot Pairs Monday, Jackpot Pairs/Triples Tuesday, Ladies President’s Day Thursday, Social/Barefoot Bowls friday and the Men’s Pennants Team away Saturday. It will be difficult but not at all impossible for our Men to win Saturday. Our home green would have been a definite advantage since we never lost a home game during the series. However, if everyone plays their best victory will not be out of the question.
Finally, two things. Firstly, many thanks to Helga Falcongreen for manning the Bar for the last nine Saurdays. Much appreciated, Helga. Secondly, all the best to Member, Curley Petersen who goes into hospital next Monday for surgery Tuesday. Hope everything goes extremely well for you Curley.
Team Witta competed at the Tewantin Seniors’ Tournament recently, and had a weekend of very competitive tennis. Maree, Michelle and Aki participated in the ladies’ events with some success, including a few upset wins against fancied pairs. Wayne and Denis made appearances in the men’s events and experienced very competitive tennis. Denis came away with a win in the combined men’s 140 doubles and a runner-up in the 70s men’s doubles. A good weekend with a lot of tough tennis.
We were fortunate to have fantastic weather for the Witta Spring Tournament. 20 players participated in the very first Spring Tournament. A lot of yells, groans, chatter and lots of laughter no swearing of course. The winners were: Group A: Aaron (Runner Up: Aki), Group B: Jan (Runner Up: Kerry and Peter).
