The Hitters went to Maleny to challenge the Maleny Lorikeets.
Witta won only 2 set to 6 sets and 28 games to 42 games. Maybe better luck next week against the Maleny Magics.
The Wasps had a convincing win this week against Caloundra Chookies. We won all 8 sets – 48 games to 21. A very enjoyable day and a great confidence boost for the team. Well done, Janet, Stacey, Michelle & Maree.
The Lob-Stars had another tough match against the Amigos. Annie and Pauline played their hearts out but couldn’t bring it home going down 11-9 in the tie break.
After 2 weeks off tennis, we were ready to play at Kawana. But maybe not that ready,,, we didn’t get enough games. Weather was good and we all had a good hit, good rallies and a good chat. Score was 24 to 37 games, 2 to 6 sets. Team was Maree Hooley, Aki Lepper, Donna Kuskopf and Liz Mellish.
The Kestrels were at home to the top team Maroochydore Friday Flyers. You knew it was going to be battle when the first set lasted over 1 hour, combined with 4 sets of 6-5. Unfortunately the score line didn’t go the Kestrels way. The team was Pauline, Annie, Annie B and Jeannie and they tried really hard but just didn’t get over the line.

It was a mixed week for Maleny.
The Maleny Lorikeets continue to lead their Division after a good win over their good friends The Witta hitters. It was a hard game and very much enjoyed by all.
The Maleny Moovers went down 43 games to 26 against the Eumundi Egrets. Geraldine Gabriel, Jenny O’Connor, Carolyn Hale and Jenny Riding put up a good fight and enjoyed the day immensely.
The Maleny Magics’ played an away game against Nambour Heights. Unfortunately the Magics could not make up a team due to other members being unavailable, however, our thanks to Jenny O’Connor who very kindly agreed to be a substitute.
It was a very overcast day but good weather for tennis. As usual all eight sets were hard fought. The rallies were long as both teams kept returning the ball and in most cases the point was decided by an unforced error. Maleny started well with a lead of seven games by the end of the second set which was further increased to ten by the end of the fourth set.. Nambour picked up three games of Maleny’s’ advantage at the end of the sixth set, however, Maleny took back one of these by the end of the match. The final score – a win for Maleny 34/27.
Croquet
The lawns of the Range Croquet Club in Maleny have been unusually quiet in the last week. Rain prevented play on Thursday and the storm on Saturday was a strong deterrent. One doubles game was played on Sunday with Vince Carbery and Ken Barker just squeezing home from John McCarthy and Priscilla Vickers 26 – 25. It was good to see Vince back on the lawn after a brief injury break. We hope that another long term member, Kath Smith, will also return soon.
Outside the game itself Vince and Val Carbery and Rick and Priscilla Vickers helped the TS Centaur group provide refreshments at the Relay for Life on the weekend.
There is a meeting on Saturday 15th October at 10am which members are urged to attend.

Last Tuesday’s winners with two wins plus 21 were helen Caulley and Ian Hansen. The Touchers went to Richard Groves, Alf Handley and Doug Frawley. The Jackpot wasn’t won and Alf Handley was the lucky Moneyboard winner. Friday’s Social Bowls winners with a score of plus 19 were Steve Lawrence and Doug McGufficke. Not a single Sponsors’ Prize winner was present. Those to miss out were:- Mal Somerville for Supa IGA, Keith Kropp for Live Life Villages, Trevor Summers for Top of the Range Meats and Trevor Wilson for Maung Thai Restaurant. Helen Caulley was the lucky Moneyboard winner.
This week kicked off with Nominated Open Triples Monday followed by the usual Jackpot Pairs/Triples Tuesday and Social/Barefoot Bowls Friday afternoon followed by the monthly BBQ. Don’t forget to get your names down by Thursday afternoon if you intend coming for catering purposes.
Some good news. Curley Petersen is recovering quite well from recent heart surgery at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Chermside. Visitors, Lucy and Ray Oldfield Friday and Ian and Jenny Hansen Saturday were surprised at how well Curley appeared to be. Shouldn’t be too long before he is back home but will probably be quite a while before he is fit enough to play Bowls again.
