Prime Minister Tony Abbott has appointed Member for Fisher Mal Brough to Chair the Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Assistant Minister for Social Services Mitch Fifield said: “The committee will serve as a symbol of unity and also provide a forum where questions of design and implementation can be posed in a way that is not seen to be partisan.
“We envisage the parliamentary oversight committee playing an important role in examining the experience in the NDIS launch sites and ensuring the blueprint of the Productivity Commission is realised.”
Mr Brough said: “I am delighted to be given this opportunity to be part of developing one of most important and significant social policy initiatives in our nation’s history.
“I appreciate the importance of the work this committee can and will do on behalf of those Australians living with a disability, their carers and families.”
