Mr Slipper’s former staffer James Ashby yesterday (27th Feb 2014) won his appeal against a Federal Court decision to throw out his sexual harassment case against the former parliamentary speaker.
Federal Court judge, Justice Steven Rares, had dismissed Mr Ashby’s case against Mr Slipper as an abuse of process in December 2012.
Mal Brough has issued a statement saying “I have always expressed confidence in our judicial system as I maintained that the original judgment was without basis and flawed. I am delighted that the Full Bench of the Federal Court has vindicated my position.”
In the edited highlights of a media conference held on 28th February 2014 at his Buddina Electoral Office, Mr Brough discusses the decision in so far as it vindicates his position in the matter and further takes aim at sections of the media and his political opponents for not similarly awaiting the judgement before making comment and analysis.
