Locals and visitors to the popular Alex Headland foreshore precinct are in for a real treat with a major revitalisation ready to roll.
Division 4 Councillor Chris Thompson said Sunshine Coast Council is committed to enhancing this popular precinct that is a real drawcard for everyone from families, picnickers, walkers and joggers to surfers, beach goers and more.
“Construction of Stage 3 of the Alexandra Headland Foreshore Upgrade will commence on Monday 18 June and will run for a period of 10 weeks (weather permitting),” he said.
“With such a beautiful outlook all the way across to Mudjmba Island in the north and Pt Cartwright Lookout in the south this next stage of revamp works will really start to make this foreshore area on par with this incredible backdrop.”
The upcoming works have been designed to achieve the objectives outlined in the Alexandra Headland to Cotton Tree Masterplan (2005).
The Stage 3 project will include improvements to the existing beachfront community recreation area including:
Upgrading the existing pedestrian pathway to 3-4m wide, allowing for safe use by pedestrians and cyclists.
General landscape works with mature tree planting, the establishment of new gardens and revegetation of areas below existing trees.
Upgrading of existing park furniture including bins, seating and provision for future lighting.
Development of the beach viewing, pedestrian seating areas and activity areas.
Upgrade of the beach shower facilities.
The works will complement last year’s upgrades of the BBQs, picnic shelter and playground.
Cr Thompson said traffic and pedestrian management measures will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.
“I thank residents and for their patience while works are being carried out,” he said.
Council will use the current landscape concept plan to apply for additional funding from various sources and agencies. The development of the park will occur in several stages over a number of years. The rate and extent of implementation will be subject to the securing of funding for future stages.
