Festival Director, Ian Mackellar has announced the dates for the 12th Noosa Longweekend Festival , 10 days (and nights) of music, theatre, dance, literature, forums, film, food, visual arts, supper clubs and workshops staged at various venues in Noosa, Queensland.
This year, culture vultures will be treated to over 80 free and ticketed events featuring the best of international, national and local talent in a very long weekend program spanning from Friday 14 June – Sunday 23 June, 2013.
Ian said that in a departure from previous years, the Noosa Longweekend would pre-release a number of events for sale on Friday 22 March, ahead of the full program release on Friday 3 May, 2013.
“I can’t say too much at this stage but we are so excited about our 2013 program that we’ve decided to release a selection of events a little earlier than usual. Our much loved multi-arts genre program will remain but there will also be a few new elements in the mix including a dedicated festival comedy club staged over four nights.”
Although not willing to divulge many festival secrets ahead of the official event release dates, Ian was happy to share a brief taste of things to come.
“As we are privileged enough to say each year, once again we’ll be showcasing esteemed national playwright and Noosa local, David Williamson’s latest play, Happiness. As the name suggests, it is a comedy and will be presented by Sydney’s Ensemble Theatre Company, Ian said.
“The legendary Robyn Archer, singer, writer, artistic director and public advocate of the arts, will be joining us from Sydney to perform a French cabaret feast encompassing a selection of works from Aristide Bruante through to Jacques Brel, Brigitte Bardot and Serge Gainsbourg amongst others.
“The hysterically funny Mrs Bang, also known as Sheridan Harbridge will be escaping the southern winter and making two return supper club appearances with her new show, and Brisbane’s Expressions Dance Company will also return to perform a dynamic selection of contemporary dance works. We have some incredibly talented international acts joining us too – one performer will be winging his way from New York.
“Finally, we are anticipating that our opening night act will be so popular that we’re running his show for two nights. Who and what will be revealed on Friday 22 March but I’d advise people to circle June 14 and 15 on their calendars now. We’ll be welcoming an exceptional singer, actor, dancer and television star to our festival stage.”
