Thirteen students and three teachers from Caloundra Christian College are currently touring Japan, and having the time of their lives. Mr Mark Spencer, Director of the Caloundra Christian College International Program, together with Japanese teacher Mrs Hiroko Morohashi, have organised the College’s annual student Japan trip with a careful balance of old and new cultural experiences, educational and tourist-focussed activities.
“The trip is the culmination of the students’ language program, and of the wonderful relationships formed through our regular hosting of visitors in Caloundra,” said Mr Spencer.
“They get so much out of it; cultural perspective and lifelong connections, as well as courage and sheer inspiration through the chance to step outside of their own daily lives and comfort zones. The group has visited Temples and Castles in Kyoto, travelled past Mt Fuji in the Bullet Train and stopped a few days with Japanese families rurally in Toyohashi at partner school “Cherry Blossom Hill High School”.
The trip culminates in Tokyo with visits to the new Skytree Tower, prestigious partner school Seikei Elementary, then to Tokyo Disneyland before flying back home next week,” he added. “The kids are really enjoying it… it’s a rare and enviable opportunity for these kids to challenge themselves. For some it is the ‘trip of a lifetime’.”
