Have your say on the Bruce Highway’s future
Sunshine Coast motorists can view and provide feedback on the draft plan for the future upgrade of the Bruce Highway between Caloundra Road and the Sunshine Motorway from this week.
Transport and Main Roads Regional Director, Dennis Tennant encouraged residents and road users to visit staffed and fixed public displays from December 2 to January 31 next year and have their say.
“Public displays will be conveniently located at several places on the Sunshine Coast so the community can see what we’re proposing and provide us with their valuable feedback,” Mr Tennant said.
“During the display period there will be project team members at Chancellor Park Marketplace and Kawana Shopping World to discuss the draft plan and answer any questions.”
Mr Tennant said feedback from the displays would be considered along with the results of traffic, engineering and environmental studies, and used to develop a final plan for the project.
The Bruce Highway is a federally funded road.
“Following community consultation, we will review the draft plan to incorporate feedback before preparing a submission to the Australian Government for funding consideration for future project phases,” Mr Tennant said.
“Increasing development and high traffic demand on the Sunshine Coast will drive the need for this important upgrade.
“As most road users and residents in the area know, this major road experiences a significant amount of congestion during peak periods.
“This planning phase will help us find the most appropriate solution for upgrading this busy stretch of road.” The draft plan proposes upgrading the Sunshine Motorway and Caloundra Road interchanges, and widening
the highway from four to six lanes between the interchanges.
The Sunshine Motorway interchange will be upgraded as a priority, and will include a 20-metre high flyover for motorists travelling from the Sunshine Motorway north onto the Bruce Highway.
The plan also proposes a western service road by extending Frizzo Road to connect to Steve Irwin Way in the south, and Tanawha Tourist Drive in the north.
