Residents of the Sunshine Coast are invited to have their say as Sunshine Coast Council reviews the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Complex Draft Master Plan 2012-2028.
Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said council engaged consultants to undertake a master plan for the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Complex precinct including the recently acquired additional sport and recreation land.
“We acknowledge the Sports Complex is an important social hub for the local community providing sport, light entertainment, community and active recreation space for all to enjoy,” Cr Baberowski said.
“Council has reviewed the information gathered from surveys and community consultation sessions, held over a 10 month period, with lessees and user groups in addition to interviews with relevant regional and state sporting associations.
“Reflecting that feedback the draft master plan is now ready for the community to see if we got it right and if not tell us how to improve it.”
Cr Baberowski said the master plan is the key design document to guide how the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Complex can continue to service its user groups and continue to provide a valuable community resource into the future.
“Demand will need to be monitored in order to trigger development of future new fields,” he said.
“Residential development in close proximity to the Complex, the attraction and preservation of remnant natural environment and the site’s main road location and proximity to the Glasshouse retail precinct all need to be considered.
“One aspect I personally like is that the draft master plan has included several opportunities to introduce passive recreational outcomes as part of future developments.
“Community feedback can still contribute to the vision for the future use of the site and after a review by officers the draft will be forwarded to council for final endorsement.”
Residents are invited to view the draft master plan by accessing the ‘have your say’ section on council’s website by Tuesday 30 October 2012. Planned completion for the master plan is December 2012.
Glasshouse Mountains Sports Complex is home to: Glasshouse Soccer, Cricket, Netball and Athletics. The facility is managed by Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club who undertakes all the maintenance, operational costs on behalf of the sporting bodies.
