If you’re planning a visit to the PGA Championship this weekend, you’re in for a spectacular weekend watching some of the world’s best golfers in action.
The Australian PGA Championship website has all the information about how to get there, where to park and timetables for free transport.
Director of Community Services, Ms Coralie Nichols said the PGA Championship is a high profile event for the region that is sure to attract a lot of interest.
“Sunshine Coast Council has been working with the event organisers to help ensure things run smoothly and is providing an extra car park venue as well as free charter buses for people attending on Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” Ms Nichols said.
“Dedicated charter buses marked ‘PGA’ will be operated by Sunshine Coast Sunbus collecting people from designated pick-up points across the Sunshine Coast.
“If you are planning to drive to the event and seeking a car park in nearby residential areas, please drive slowly, take care and check the signage to ensure you only park in allowable areas.
“Ensuring safety in residential streets is a priority and drivers will notice changes in some streets that restrict parking on both sides to allow safe access and clear visibility.
“Council has already installed “no parking” signs in many streets around the Hyatt Regency and if it is necessary to deal with overflow from the designated car park venues, particularly on Saturday, council officers will be available to guide and direct traffic to other, legal, parking areas.
With Saturday attendance expected to rise this year, an additional car park area has been made available at Coolum State Primary School with free shuttles running a continuous loop to the Hyatt Regency Coolum.
“Obviously public transport is the way to go so check the PGA website for times and stops that include: Caloundra Bus Interchange, Stockland Stadium, Mooloolaba River Esplanade, Sunshine Plaza Interchange, Nambour Rail, Bli Bli, Twin Waters, Noosa Junction Bus Station and Coolum Surf Club,” Ms Nichols said.
This free transport does not apply to the normal scheduled Sunbus services.
Council has worked closely with the event owner PGA Australia and the event manager TRP Sports since 2002, to develop and implement the PGA Traffic & Transport Management Plan to ensure the successful delivery of PGA Championship at the Hyatt Regency Coolum.
