With interest being shown from not only running clubs along the Sunshine Coast, South East Queensland as well as locally the LIONS MOUNTAIN VIEW CHALLENGE run and walk is off to a good start.
The event is on the 5th August at the Maleny Show Grounds starting at 7.30am for registrations with a start beginning at 8.30am.
The event hosts a Half Marathon of some 21 kilometres along the picturesque Mountain View Road to Mary Cairncross Avenue and return to the show grounds via McCathy’s Road, Tallowood Drive and Centenary Drive. The 8 kilometre run follows the same route but runners return to the showgrounds at the intersection of McCarthy’s Road and Mountain View Road.
There is also a 3 kilometre run for youngsters starting again from the showgrounds into Coral Street up Bunya Street to the Tallowwood intersection and return. For the slightly less energetic an 8 kilometre walk following the same route as the 3 kilometre run but continuing onto the intersection of McCarthy’s Road and Mountain View Road and return via the same route.
Entry for the 21 Kilometre run is $30/participant and for the 8 kilometre run $20/participant with $5/participant in the 3 kilometre run and the 8 kilometre walk. Proceeds will go to the Lions Medical Research Foundation. This Foundation supports major medical research being carried out in the major Brisbane Hospitals. Last year some $2,500 was raised at a walkathon but this year with the added running and walking challenge a higher figure should be achieved.
The Lions Club of Maleny Blackall Range is proud to showcase our lovely Range to the rest of South Queensland with this event. It will be a major boost to tourism in the area as it is being advertised not just as a half day event but encourages non locals to take advantage of the many facilities along the Range by making it a full weekend experience.
The event is tailored to be a lead up to the Sunshine Coast Marathon being held on the 25th and 26th August 2012.
Participants can register on line for the 21 K and 8 K run http:regonline.activeglobel.com/lionsmountainviewchallenge 1108197 (21K) or 1108197copy (8K).   Walkers and the 3 K runners can  register by completing a registration form by contacting Phil Holmes 0409807751 or email philliph@westnet.com.au or Mike Foale on 0409342436 or email pamfoal@bigpond.com.
