The Ginger Factory will burst into bloom with the very first ginger flowers and heliconias for the season, to be unveiled at the Ginger Flower & Food Festival from Friday, January 18 to Sunday January 20.
Joining the gorgeous showcase of over 4000 ornamental gingers and heliconias will be a top line-up of chefs, gardening celebrities, entertainers and a very special tribute to the late Colin Campbell, OAM, who will be honoured within the Ginger Factory’s Community Honour Walk.
Colin who had been a regular presenter at the annual Ginger Flower & Food Festival for well over ten years sharing with thousands of visitors his passion and extensive knowledge of gardening. This year, Colin’s absence will be greatly felt by regular festival-goers, many of who had travelled from near and far to hear him speak and offer his practical, down-to-earth gardening advice.
The festival will also unveil a great cooking format with all chefs this year being locals, which is a proud testament to the region’s enviable position within Australia’s culinary scene.
From Thai-inspired salads, seafood and duck to mouth watering desserts, canapés, vegetarian, Japanese and French dishes, food lovers can mingle with the professionals, taste their creations and take home free recipes to dazzle their own guests.
Local chefs appearing include Freestyle Escape’s king of desserts, Martin Duncan; The Long Apron’s Cameron Matthews; Kelly Lord from the Spirit House; Your Organic Café’s Monica Topliss; Michael Jenkins from Outrigger Little Hastings Street and Ninderry Manor’s Aki Kitabatake.
Gardening and design include radio and media columnists, Phil Dudman and Clair Levander, together with organic gardening expert Linda Brennan, Town Mount Tropicals’ Maureen Simons and Dezley Hughes from Cooroy’s Twig & Grace.
This three day Festival is a true celebration of Queensland’s sub-tropical lifestyle and will be filled with loads of free entertainment, glorious food and simply spectacular flowers!
