__Federal Member for Fisher Peter Slipper has protested over the theft and defacing of his election signs.
Mr Slipper said, “In a democracy this is completely un-Australian and unacceptable behaviour.”
Mr Slipper said to him that Tony Moore the Family First Candidate for Fisher, had said “I’ve experienced an overnight assault on my signage, with some signs having been purposefully cut from their fixings and their stakes being snapped off – the signs thrown into the bush or placed out of sight.”
Mr Slipper said, “In addition to the theft of my signs some of them had been defaced and in some cases obscenities have been written across them”.
“It is curious that while my signs are being destroyed, those erected by LNP candidates appear to be relatively untouched”, said Mr Slipper.
He added, “I respect the right of all candidates to display election signs and material in support of their campaigns, but deplore the destruction of corflutes of any party or candidate”.
I call on LNP candidates on the Sunshine Coast to reassure the community that they or their supporters are not responsible for this vandalism.
