Event industry professionals are invited to attend the Sunshine Coast Council Events Network (scene) educational and networking workshop on 18 October 2012.
scene will be held at the Sunshine Coast TAFE Mooloolaba campus from 1.30pm and is aimed at those who are new to the events industry, are looking to run a new event or would like to further develop existing events or skill sets.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said council has partnered with the Sunshine Coast TAFE event management faculty for the final scene event for 2012.
“TAFE students will be given the opportunity to work with an experienced council senior events officer to obtain valuable practical skills of running the workshop and networking event,” Cr McKay said.
“The students are the future of the region’s events industry and they will learn first hand what it takes to run events of this nature.
“A free networking evening will follow the workshop and is something you don’t want to miss if you have anything to do with the events industry on the coast.”
The evening program features global networking specialist Robyn Henderson who will explain why networking has become a critical business tool.
Free catering and entertainment will be provided and importantly an opportunity for those working in the Coast’s events industry to build important business relationships and networks.
The driving force behind the initiative from Sunshine Coast TAFE is Diploma of Events teachers Karina Hogan and Andrew Robertson.
Mr Robertson said the partnership with council’s scene program is integral to building and strengthening the events industry on the Coast.
“This is a fantastic initiative from council to allow our Diploma of Events students the opportunity to work with experienced event managers and sink their teeth into real life event scenarios,” Mr Robertson said.
“This invaluable experience will complement the theory of their TAFE course by allowing them to be involved in the coordination of the free networking evening which directly follows the workshop and giving them the opportunity to approach local performers, suppliers and sponsors.”
For the full program of speakers and topics, to purchase tickets for the workshop or RSVP to attend the free networking evening visit council’s website or phone 5475 7272.
scene is proudly supported by Business Events Sunshine Coast, the University of the Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Coast TAFE and Mantra Group who have strong input and involvement with the network.
