Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd (SCDL) CEO, Steve Cooper welcomed the figures, “The Sunshine Coast tourism sector remains solid with domestic visitation after experiencing a challenging year in 2011.”
“In addition to the overall five percent increase in domestic overnight visitors compared to the same period last year, intrastate visitors to the region grew by six percent, led by Brisbane residents. This demonstrates the Sunshine Coast’s naturally refreshing brand and work is resonating with visitors, together with the destinations’ easy access, safe location and relaxing holiday appeal.
“Over the past two years, there has been exciting developments and investment directed into business events product and experiences across the Sunshine Coast. We are excited by the increase in business related travel as this presents further opportunities to boost Monday to Friday business for the region’s economy,” added Mr Cooper.
The Tourism Forecasting Committee is predicting domestic tourism will increase by an average of 0.3% between 2010 and 2015.
