Noosa Longweekend Festival Director, Ian Mackellar is adding the finishing touches to a program that will see over 65 free and ticketed events staged from Friday 15 – Sunday 24 June, 2012 in Noosa Heads, Queensland. Over 35% of the program will be free of charge.
The annual Noosa Longweekend Festival is a 10 day (and night) celebration of music, theatre, dance, literature, forums, film, food, visual arts and workshops. It sees the iconic, beachside village of Noosa transformed into ‘culture central’ each June.
Ian said that the 2012 program would see audiences treated to the crème de la crème of Australian talent including names such as John Bell, Bruce Beresford, Andrew Denton, Peter FitzSimons, Jennifer Byrne, Anthony Garcia, William Barton, Expressions Dance Company and more, as well as an unprecedented line-up of international performers hailing from Quebec, New York and London. He also hinted that audiences could be in for a few surprises as part of the festival’s eleventh year.
“As we embark on our second decade of Noosa Longweekend Festivals, in addition to presenting firm festival favourites such as classical and contemporary music, literary events and dance, we’ll be shaking things up a little with a number of acts that may be considered risqué or at the very least, thought provoking, Ian said.
“We’re looking forward to revealing our full program on Thursday 3 May, however intend to release some featured events ahead of that date in order to allow patrons to secure their tickets earlier and also whet their appetites with a taste of things to come.”
As has been the case since the festival first began in 2001, patron and dramatist, David Williamson will present his latest play ‘When Dad Married Fury’. The black comedy will be presented directly following its Sydney Ensemble Theatre Company season and revolves around the significant birthday of family patriarch, Alan and the surprise introduction of his new foreign wife – much to the horror of his children and grandchildren.
