A petition urging the State Government to review and upgrade a notorious Beerwah intersection has today been lodged in Parliament.
More than 600 people signed an e-petition and hardcopy petition, sponsored by Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle, lobbying authorities to improve safety out the front of Beerwah State School at the intersection of Old Gympie Rd and Peachester Rd.
Mr McArdle backed the petition after meeting with concerned parents and local residents in August.
“There is no proper school crossing or a set of traffic lights allowing people and school children to cross safely,” Mr McArdle said.
“Unfortunately someone being seriously injured or killed at this intersection is a real possibility.
“I thank the Beerwah community for banding together to support this petition and look forward to Transport Minister Scott Emerson’s response on any action that will be taken.”
The e-petition, containing 171 signatures, was tabled in State Parliament this morning, and the hardcopy petition, containing 467 signatures, is expected to be tabled tomorrow.
Mr McArdle helped the community rally over a notorious intersection at Landsborough, Steve Irwin Way/Hardwood Rd and Railway St, resulting in the Department of Transport and Main Roads announcing it would fast-track the installation of traffic lights at the intersection by two years, with construction set to start early next year.
