The countdown is now on for local families and visitors to see in the New Year at Sunshine Coast’s biggest end-of-year celebrations – New Year’s Eve Mooloolaba.
Local media are invited to join Mayor Jamieson, Division 4 Councillor Chris Thompson, QPS Inspector Jason Overland and Mooloolaba Police Beat, Sergeant Steve McDonald to take a sneak peak at the free, popular family friendly event which attracts more than 45,000 people to the Mooloolaba Esplanade each year.
Sunshine Coast Council’s New Year’s Eve Mooloolaba will bring the Esplanade to life from 4pm. This year the main stage entertainment will kick off at 5.30pm with a family friendly kids line-up featuring Dirtgirl, Madagascar III and Peter Pan before the Boogies Woogies Superhero Band take to the stage before the 8.30pm fireworks spectacular.
Rising local band Soula, critically acclaimed music sensation, Thirsty Merc and popular live act, The Jungle Giants, will then take centre stage to lead us into the midnight fireworks which will be simulcast on 91.9 Sea FM. For those wanting to get some sand between their toes, four live DJ’s will perform on the Beach Stage from 7.30pm.
To add to the festival atmosphere there will be roving street entertainment, children’s activities, carnival rides and buskers for the whole family to enjoy. Be tempted by local food vendors, and the nearby restaurants and cafes on the Esplanade to satisfy your taste buds – there is certainly something for everyone and every budget.
The celebrations at Mooloolaba are only one of a number of New Year’s celebrations planned across the Sunshine Coast.
Sunshine Coast Council also supports the New Year’s Eve celebrations at Kings Beach and the Noosa Marina, Tewantin.
