The Cooroy Library, the Butter Factory Arts Centre, and Maple Street will come alive from 9am to 3pm this Saturday 11 May for the 2013 Cooroy Fusion Festival.
Sunshine Coast Council Division 12 Councillor Tony Wellington said the 2013 Cooroy Fusion celebrations will attract thousands of people to Cooroy by offering a diverse range of free family-oriented entertainment.
“Cooroy Fusion is a fantastic community event for all to enjoy,” he said.
“It offers a chance for residents and tourists to experience this beautiful hinterland town and its amazing array of creative talents.
“The architecturally award-winning Cooroy Library will be hosting events for all ages and tastes. These include workshops on sustainability, yoga and tai chi demonstrations, Gubbi Gubbi storytelling, the Noosa District High School Fusion Film Festival and much more.
“There will also be lots of activities to entertain children including free face painting, the Pokemon Club, and competitions for the title of the Sonic XBox Champion.”
Councillor Wellington said the historic Butter Factory Arts Centre (BFAC) will open its doors for the fifth biennial art educator exhibition, Squeeze ’13 100% Local Ingredients Only, which encouraged art educators out of their classrooms and into their studios.
“Visitors to the festival can also meet with local artists as they demonstrate their skills and sell their works. And anyone can explore their own creative talent by participating in the Get Creative workshops where they can create their own work of art to take home,” he said.
“The Festival will also feature acoustic music sessions by headline acts Ayla Scanlan from Sydney and Pomona’s Andrea Kirwin who will be launching her first album.
“This fusion of Cooroy community events also includes market stalls, local foods, the Cooroy Wood and Craft Show and the Noosa District Orchid and Foliage Society Mother’s Day Show.
“There will be workshops and demonstrations of zumba dance, Irish dancing, wood turning, furniture making, photoshop techniques, unicycling and much, much more. Without doubt there is something for everyone at the Cooroy Fusion Festival.”
All workshop sessions are free however bookings are essential by calling 1300 LIBRARY (1300 542 727) or by visiting council’s library website.
