A refurbishment to the external support and building structures of Sunshine Coast Council’s popular Coolum Library will ensure an extended lifespan to this important community facility.
Division 9 Councillor Steve Robinson said the Coolum Beach Library is in need of repair and maintenance due to the age of the building and corrosion from its close proximity to the ocean.
“We have today engaged the successful contractor to commence work from Monday 9 December and it is expected to be completed by the end of January, weather permitting,” Cr Robinson said.
“The important message I would like to let the community know is that the Coolum Library will remain open during this time excluding the Christmas/New Year public holidays.
“All efforts will be made to ensure minimal disruptions to library patrons and to keep noise to a minimum.
“I will be arranging a letterbox drop to advise local residents who live next to the library of the works and would like to thank library patrons, staff and the community for their understanding during the construction stage.
“All work will take place within appropriate and legislated time frames – that is Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm and Saturday from 8am to 4pm.
“As is expected with any construction there will be some noise disruption and during this time and patrons are welcome to utilise and explore the region’s library branches in close proximity.
“Council would also like to advise the community all library branches will be closed for the Christmas and New Year public holidays including 25 and 26 December 2013 and 1 January 2014.
