Coolum Business and Tourism Association Inc. will celebrate the town’s inclusion on Council’s 2012 Christmas Tree Trail with a special ‘flicking of the switch’ ceremony on Saturday 1 December 2012.
The Association, in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council, has identified a Norfolk Pine along David Low Way as a temporary community Christmas Tree; and Division 9 Councillor Stephen Robinson will officially ‘flick the Christmas Lights switch’ on Saturday.
Running under the banner of a scaled-down version of the highly successful Coolum Fiesta, the free community event will kick off with an outdoor screening of ‘Arthur Christmas’ in popular Tickle Park from 6:30pm.
Cr Robinson will officially light up the Coolum Christmas Tree following the movie, when the town’s permanent Christmas Tree (from 2013) will also be unveiled along with carol singing by the Cool Harmonies Choir.
“We are thrilled to once again have Coolum included as one of the 32 areas lighting up stunning Christmas trees throughout the region,” said Coolum Business and Tourism President, Noel Mooney.
“Our executive committee has been working in partnership with council over several months to ensure that the town will once again have a permanently dedicated Christmas Tree for the foreseeable future.
“While this year’s tree is a temporary measure, a new Norfolk Pine will be planted in Tickle Park as part of the overall streetscaping project currently being completed.
“We are extremely grateful to Council for recognising the importance to the community of having a dedicated Christmas Tree and we are looking forward to officially launching the town’s Festive Season on Saturday night,” Mr Mooney added.
The Sunshine Coast Christmas Tree Trail began three years ago when council received feedback from the community about what they’d like to see in their region to mark the occasion.
Mayor Mark Jamieson kicked off the coast’s Christmas Tree Trail at Mooloolaba last week, and Coolum’s Christmas tree is one of over thirty in the region being progressively lit up to provide a dazzling welcome to our visitors.
Coolum Business and Tourism are also celebrating council’s decision to install over a dozen festive banners along David Low Way, saying they would add a vibrancy and cheer to the town during what they hope will be a bumper tourist season.
Coolum’s festive season launch gets underway from 6:30pm in Tickle Park on Saturday 1 December.
