Sunshine Coast based teen singing/songwriting sensation, Alys Longmate is set to launch her debut full-length album, ‘Magic’ at a free live concert at The J Theatre Noosa, on Sunday 30 September at 6.30pm.
Magic is a 14 track musical masterpiece comprising all original material and a celebration of Alys’ jazz-pop-folk style. Evocative vocals, sophisticated story-telling, kooky chord progressions and strong, memorable melodies combine to reveal a musical maturity well beyond Alys’ 16 years.
Already a seasoned performer at music festivals nationwide and having appeared to rave reviews at a recent pre-Grammy Awards performance in Los Angeles, Alys and her production team have been planning, recording and producing Magic for the past 18 months.
After such a long time in the making, Alys says that she can’t wait to perform Magic live on stage with her five piece band and promises an inspiring and enchanting night for those attending:
“It is my absolute dream to share a little bit of Magic with attentive audiences, Alys said.
“As well presenting the album, there will be some extra magical moments included in the evening including the freakishly flexible contortionist and aerial acrobat, Lucia Carbines; the magnificent and mysterious magician, Sean Tretheway; and performance poet, Danksta Downunder.”
Alys said that she always knew she would become a full time musician after first learning to play the guitar at five years of age and then writing and singing her first original song at 12. Although she has four years of classical vocal training behind her, Alys said that she has always been attracted to the world of indie-pop and folk and lists Kate Miller-Heidke, Ben Folds, Queen, KT Tunstall, Jessie J, The Beatles, Katy Perry and The Andrews Sisters as some of her favourite musical influences.
“At sixteen years old I am fully aware that I already living my dream of being a full time musician – writing songs, singing and playing my heart out for audiences all around the world.
“That’s one of the many reasons as to why I decided to name the album Magic.
“Although I don’t want to devalue the amount of hard work that it has taken my amazing team of talented co-producers, musicians, engineers and supporters to get here, it’s like I’m living in some kind of wonderful, fanciful, whimsical world.
“I’d love for people to come to the album launch and share our adventures in that world. Although the album will definitely be available for sale, the performance and magical, spontaneous experiences will be provided at no charge.”
