The Swisse Color Run is set to change the colour of the Sunshine Coast when it arrives later this year, becoming the second Queensland location to play host to the iconic new event.
On Sunday, October 13, 2013, Sunshine Coast Council’s premier sport and recreation facility Stockland Park at Kawana Waters will be transformed into the “Happiest 5k on the Planet” when the event spreads its multi-coloured magic into south east Queensland.
The five kilometre fun run with a colourful twist will see participants of all ages and fitness levels covered in colour by the time they’ve completed the course, weaving around the Stockland Park precinct and Lake Kawana, a unique course set to showcase the area’s beautiful surrounds.
Inspired in part by the Hindu Holi Festival, with its tradition of welcoming spring by throwing natural coloured powders. The Swisse Color Run guarantees a truly memorable experience as runners are showered in blue, yellow, orange and pink coloured powder at each kilometre stage. (made from 100% natural and safe food grade corn starch) turning their pristine white attire into a rainbow explosion of colours!
The Swisse Color Run is not a race where participants battle it out or aim to run a personal best. Rather, it’s about connecting with friends and family, being active and enjoying yourself.
Each event raises funds for Swisse’s charitable arm. The Celebrate Life Foundation, which contributes to disease prevention research and supports health and happiness causes across Australia. In addition to this a local charity partner is also appointed as a beneficiary in each city, with the aim of raising $1 million in charitable contributions across the 12 month calendar of events.
While a charity partner for the Sunshine Coast event is yet to be announced, once determined all participants in The Swisse Color Run will be encouraged to join in raising funds throughout the Everyday Hero website.
The Colour Run Australia National Manager Luke Hannan said “We’re thrilled to be bringing The Swisse Color Run to the Sunshine Coast – we know that locals will embrace the celebratory essence of the event to come out to enjoy themselves with us. We must thanks Mayor Mark Jamieson and his team, as well as all at Stockland Park who have been integral in making this event a reality. Queenslanders have been telling us loud and clear that they’re ready to join the fun and we can’t wait to bring it to them”
Sunshine Coast Mayer Mark Jamieson said The Swisse Color Run is a welcomed addition to the Coasts’s impressive sporting calendar.
“Stockland Park has a superb reputation for hosting high profile events but none have been as colourful as this event promises to be” Mr Jamieson said.
“Five kilometres, thousands of competitors and countless memories for all those involved – with the added bonus of funds being raised for local charities – The Sunshine Coast is proud to play host to this iconic event”
