Sunshine Coast Council kicked off the festive season last night by turning on the lights of the Mooloolaba Christmas tree – signalling the official opening of the Coast’s Christmas Tree Trail.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said this year’s Festive Season has a great range of activities and entertainment for all the community to enjoy.
“The Sunshine Coast Christmas Tree Trail began three years ago when council received feedback from the community about how they celebrate Christmas and what they’d like to see in their region to mark the occasion,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“Resoundingly, locals asked for Christmas trees to be displayed in places where everyone could enjoy them.
“This year the regional trail will dazzle and delight with 32 trees lighting up throughout the region.
“And these are not your average Christmas trees – they range in size and species – from fabulous figs to pretty paperbarks, and each will have a unique set of dazzling decorations.
“The Mooloolaba tree is the largest festive installation and all the decorations have been designed in Queensland.
“Attached to each tree are low impact ties that will not damage the trees or impact on native wildlife. “
In keeping with council’s vision for the Sunshine Coast to be Australia’s most sustainable region, environmentally friendly Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting will feature in all council decorated trees.
“I encourage everyone in the region to share the spirit of the festive season and support their community by heading out to a local event,” Mayor Jamieson said.
