Mr Reeves said as a result of the Jobs Plan program, more than 1150 sport and recreation clubs across Queensland have benefited and are tapping into a wealth of expertise and know-how.
“On top of this, this program will create 178 jobs within the sport and recreation sector, providing a massive boost to local clubs and the community,” Mr Reeves said.
Mr Reeves said developing sport at the grassroots level not only heightens our chances of hosting events, but reinforces our reputation as the Champions State and the Events State as well.
“Queensland has had a great sporting year which is partly due to the Government’s continued investment in sport and recreation, which is more than other states or territories,” he said.
“However, we don’t want to rest on our laurels, which is why I recently launched the Ahead of the Game discussion paper to help develop a new vision or a road map for sport and recreation into the future.
Ahead of the Game backgrounds what we’ve achieved and how our initiatives have taken us to where we are now, but more importantly it asks key questions on where we should be heading.
“We want to work in partnership with everyone – from clubs and associations to local government and the broader community to focus our efforts on how we can get even more Queenslanders participating in sport and recreation.
“This aligns with our Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland initiative to help Queenslanders become the healthiest people in Australia.”
