Sunshine Coast Council has started work on a number of exciting changes to popular Foreshore Park along the Mooloolaba Spit.
The upgrade work to this beachfront community recreation area – adjacent to the Urunga Esplanade car park – is the next stage of implementing the Mooloolaba Spit Futures Plan (2009).
Division 4 Councillor Chris Thompson said the park upgrade would include improvements that would benefit a number of different recreational functions.
“As well as upgrading some of the existing park facilities, we will be adding some terrific new recreational infrastructure and general enhancements,” he said.
“Works will cover everything from expanding the existing pedestrian pathway to 3m wide – allowing for safe shared use, providing a new barbeque and picnic shelters and installing a new accessible beach shower.”
Other features of the project include:

  • upgrading existing park furniture including, bins, seating and pedestrian lighting
  • general landscape work, with mature tree planting and establishment of new gardens.

Construction is scheduled to run for a period of 10 to 12 weeks, and with good weather, will be open to the public mid-November.
Traffic and pedestrian management measures will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists. Your patience is appreciated whilst construction work is underway.
