Minister for Housing Karen Struthers today announced 283 new affordable housing allocations for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council area.
“This means new homes will be built that are available to rent for low income families,” Ms Struthers said.
“This is one of the many steps the Queensland Government is taking to help people deal with housing stress.
“Housing supply, affordability and demand is a major issue. That’s why the Bligh Government has been taking action.
“We introduced the $10,000 Queensland Building Boost, we’ve used the Urban Land Development Authority to bring more available land to market, and built a record number of new social housing dwellings over the past three years.”
Ms Struthers said more affordable rental homes on the Sunshine Coast will be a real help for families doing it tough.
“It’s just one of the ways the Bligh Government is helping Queenslanders with cost of living pressures.”
Ms Struthers said the new homes are part of 4370 new affordable rental properties state-wide that were announced this week as part of the fourth round of the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS).
“Under NRAS, the State and Federal government provide subsidies for 10 years to private developers to build new homes and make them available at least 20 per cent below market rent.
These extra NRAS incentives in Queensland bring the total number of NRAS approvals to 11,279 to be delivered by June 2014.
“This program is providing urgently needed affordable rental housing across the state.”
