A better bridge on Meyricks Road

If you’re travelling along Meyricks Road you’ll now notice a welcome change.
Sunshine Coast Council has completed construction of a new single lane reinforced concrete bridge that has replaced the old timber bridge.
Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said the new $432,000 bridge was an important improvement to the local road network.
“The existing timber bridge had reached the end of its serviceable life and this new concrete bridge will not only provide a much longer lifespan but also improved flood immunity,” he said.
“I’d like to acknowledge the work of the staff and the previous councillor and particularly thank adjoining residents and local commuters for their patience while this upgrade project was under construction.”
Glasshouse Country Coaches Manager Gary Edwards said the new bridge enabled safer travelling on Meyricks Road.
“We use this road frequently during our school runs and the old wooden bridge was often tricky to negotiate due to it being barely wide enough to accommodate our busses,” he said.
“Because the new bridge is wider it allows a much easier and safer crossing for our drivers and this is very important to us given that we’re transporting school children.”
Council is committing between $3 million and $7 million per year to replace aging timber bridges and in some cases failing concrete bridge infrastructure.
Around 80 timber bridges will be replaced by council over the next few decades with concrete bridges that have a design lifespan in excess of 100 years.
