2014 – New Era for the Sunshine Coast

The beginning of 2014 marks the start of an exciting era for the Sunshine Coast with a new council to help drive a productive and prosperous future for the region.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said the new council is all about people, and it will provide the same quality services and value for money.
“We’re striving to become the most sustainable region in Australia – economically, environmentally and socially, Mayor Jamieson said.
“It’s about getting the balance right – we will create the right conditions for jobs, a healthy environment and a great lifestyle.
“We’ll deliver that over the new council area – which extends from Eumundi and Peregian Springs in the north to Beerburrum in the south and beyond Kenilworth in the west.”
The transformation has already started and in 2014 we’ll see more significant steps towards a new direction for the Sunshine Coast:

• In the next few months the Environmental Impact Statement for the new runway at Sunshine Coast Airport will be released for public consultation.
• In the first quarter of 2014, after years of hard work, a new planning scheme will start, stimulatingeconomic growth while protecting our heritage and environmental values.
• Sunshine Coast First will go to a new level as it advocates for widening the Bruce Highway between Caboolture and the Coast, and the railway duplication to Nambour.
• The new health precinct will take shape as construction continues on the Sunshine Coast University Public Hospital – to join the new private hospital in 2016.
• Preparatory work will resume for the new Maroochydore City Centre – another game-changing project which will help build a new era of prosperity on the Coast.
• Council’s commitment to building a solar farm at Valdora near Coolum will take more concrete shape.
• Council’s libraries, community grants and events will help to educate, innovate and entertain.

“This year is a watershed year for the Sunshine Coast – one which has the potential to provide more jobs, more opportunities and greater prosperity.”
